On 20 September, 3M Hong Kong Sales & Marketing Manager Jeff Chu talked about the advantages of the Safety & Security Window Films while interviewing by iMoney Magazine. 3M Senior Application Engineer Turis Lee also demonstrated the actual performance of the films in the laboratory.
Typhoon Mangkhut wreaked havoc in Hong Kong on 16 September by causing a record storm surge, destroying waterfront promenades, uprooting trees and leaving thousands of windows smashed all over the city.
3M Hong Kong Sales & Marketing Manager Jeff Chu told the magazine, “Flying shards of glass present serious risks to people and facilities nearby. Though tempered glass is installed in many residential and commercial buildings, the shattered glass may still cause scratches and injuries to people around. 3M™ Safety & Security Window Films can effectively prevent flying shards of glass from harming people and damaging property.”
3M™ Safety & Security Window Films are designed to hold broken glass in place. Each window film consists of 40 to 50 layers of films with thickness of around 0.15mm to 0.25mm - just like a transparent card and with adhesive on one side.
Mr Chu said, “Many windows of the hotels and residential buildings were broken after Typhoon Hato hit Macau last year. People became highly concerned about window safety, and the sales volume of our Safety & Security Window Films has been soaring ever since. A hotel reported that after applying the window films, the broken glass was still held in place to keep out wind and rain. There’s no need to cover the broken window with wooden planks, and they had enough time to make repairs. After the striking of Typhoon Mangkhut, local inquiries for our Safety & Security Window Films has also increased three times.”
3M™ Safety & Security Window Films can be applied on flat glass surface - ideally on both sides of a glass window, or only one of them if there’s any constraint. For an added level of security, apply the window film alongside with 3M specially designed attachment system to bond the filmed window safely to its frame.
Mr. Chu added, “Our company provides a 5-year warranty for the Safety & Security Window Films. The films should be installed by the professionals of 3M authorized applicators to avoid unevenness and bubbling which will adversely affect the performance of the films. Regarding the costs, it is about HK$70 – HK$90 per square feet, including the materials and installation. For a flat with two rooms, the cost estimated falls below HK$ 10,000.”
3M also provides the Safety & Security Window Films in combination format with the Sun Control Films to keep you safe while reducing energy bills for cooling.3M Hong Kong Sales & Marketing Manager Jeff Chu talked about the advantages of 3M™ Safety & Security Window Films.
