3Mers in Hong Kong celebrated the Global Day of Service through audiobook recording and blood donation

3M has a long-standing commitment to community development, and sustainability is a core value of the company. This year, 3Mers from Hong Kong participated in a companywide event - Equity in Action Week from 24 to 28 May, recording audiobooks to encourage hospitalized kids and donate blood to save lives.

On 27 May, 3M Global Day of Service, part of Equity in Action Week, 3M Hong Kong, Canada, Costa Rico, Ireland and UK participated in the pilot with Goodera, which organizes global volunteer opportunities by coordinating local community needs with NGOs and corporate volunteers. Twenty staff members from 3M Hong Kong joined the virtual voluntary activity and recorded a short story for visually challenged and hospitalized kids, helping them stay hopeful and encouraged. The short story will be used by Goodera’s partner, Hong Kong Chapter of Room to Read - a charitable organization seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in low-income communities by helping to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among children and supporting girls to acquire relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond.

Moreover, 3MHK Love & Care Volunteer Team partnered with Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service to organize a blood donation activity in the afternoon of 28 May. 16 staff members joined in and gave blood together at Kwun Tong Donor Centre. In Hong Kong, we entirely count on blood donors to provide fresh blood products for treatments of patients with chronic diseases or in need of surgery. A single donation can help three or more patients. The collected blood will be processed into its components, followed by stringent tests for infectious diseases and bacteria before being used in various treatments.
