Improves indoor energy efficiency & Enhances comfort and aesthetics

On August 22, 3M Hong Kong Sales & Marketing Manager Jeff Chu talked about the advantages of 3M Sun Control Window Film while interviewing by “Property Express” of NOW TV Finance.

Most of the newly-built residential or commercial buildings have large window panels and window façade to enhance transmission of natural light for greater aesthetics. However, the influx of sunlight also means increased indoor temperature as well as more energy consumption for air-conditioning. Also, furniture and furnishing materials exposed to direct sunlight will easily age, fade or even crack.

With its advanced technology, it helps reduce indoor temperature by about 3oC to 5 oC, thereby slashing costs for air-conditioning, boosting energy savings, and enhancing comfort and aesthetics. The demand for our Sun Control Window Film is increasing over the years. We install the film for various facilities, including residential and commercial buildings, shopping malls, libraries, hospitals and schools. Every year, our authorised applicators are fully booked from April onwards."

The technologically advanced 3M Sun Control Window Film Prestige Series consists of more than 200 layers of films, but the thickness stays below 0.1mm – even thinner than a piece of Post-it notes. Incorporating the optical reflectivity technology, the film allows 20% - 90% of natural light in, while letting you enjoy the views from inside. It reduces glare and blocks 99.9% of ultraviolet sunrays from the outside, effectively rejects up to 77% of the heat coming through the windows. It, therefore, helps reduce indoor temperature and the energy bills for air-conditioning as well as make the indoor environment more comfortable.

The professionals from a 3M authorised applicator demonstrated the installation process in the TV programme. The process is hardly complicated. The maintenance of the film after installation is also easy – just clean it with water or diluted household detergents and avoid scratching it with hard objects. With proper maintenance, the lifespan of the film can reach up to 10 years.

Talking about the installation costs, Jeff Chu said “The price of the Sun Control Window Film is about HK$ 80 – HK$ 100 per square feet. If you want to install the film outdoor or on those windows that are frequently open and closed, the film may turn milky, and its performance will be adversely affected – we, therefore, recommend the installation of the exterior series.”
