3MHK Senior Application Engineer Turis Li was invited by Building Services Operation and Maintenance Executives Society (BSOMES) to present a research paper on the effectiveness of 3M Sun Control Film at "Making Smart Buildings Smarter" Web Conference of the 10th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Conference on Operation and Maintenance in Buildings on September 18, 2020. The conference attracted industrial practitioners, researchers, and academics in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao to share ideas, information, experience, and the recent development on building operations and maintenance. The Society awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to Turis for his inspiring research and presentation.
Turis' paper, titled "Introduction of Sun Control Window Film for Energy Conservation and Building Sustainability", was among the seven papers selected to be presented in the professional conference. His empirical study shows that 3M solar control window film effectively reduced 2.87°C and 8.32°C in average temperature and maximum temperature respectively by rejecting excessive solar heat from penetrating through the windows, and thus helped lower the energy cost for air-conditioning. Various functions can also be added to the Nano-scaled multi-layered optical films to make it versatile: for example, shatter resistance to hold broken glass in place and prevent flying shards from damaging people and property, super-hydrophobic feature to reduce water stains and haze that obstructs the views, and anti-graffiti function to repel unwanted ink.
BSOMES was founded in 2000 to promote the general advancement of the discipline, practice and management of building services operation and maintenance; and to raise the public's awareness of the profession and its contributions to society and the status of its practitioners. Its members come from building professionals from various sectors, including the government, property development and management, hotels and conventional facilities management, and tertiary education. And, since the launch of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Conference on Operation and Maintenance in Buildings in 2010, this year marked the 4th time that Department of Building Services Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Macao Institution of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and South China University of Technology joined as co-organizers.
Turis shares his research results with industrial professionals in the webinar.
Representative from BSOMES awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to Turis.
