Students with Best Performance in Faculty of Medicine at HKU received 3M Hong Kong Prizes

3M Hong Kong Prizes was presented at the Faculty Prize Presentation Ceremony on Nov 9, 2022. On behalf of 3M, Cynthia Lai, Brand & Communications, attended the ceremony and presented the prizes to the students with best overall academic performance in their examinations.

As early as in 1981, the then 3M Far East Company Limited donated a number of stethoscopes for presentation to students in the Faculty of Medicine who had completed the Second Year of the curriculum. The prize was renamed to 3M Hong Kong Prize in 1989. With the introduction of the new medical curriculum and associated changes in the arrangements of examinations, starting from 2000, 3 students who have achieved the best overall academic performance in all their examinations will receive the prizes, each in the form of 3M™ Littmann® Stethoscope with his/her name engraved on it. This is a well-deserved recognition to their outstanding performance and great effort.

3M™ Littmann® stethoscopes are named after Dr. David Littmann, a Harvard Medical School professor, distinguished cardiologist and recognised international authority on electrocardiography. He patented a revolutionary new stethoscope with vastly improved acoustical performance and turned a simple listening device into a powerful diagnostic tool. 3M acquired his stethoscope business a few years later and continued to refine and improve on his designs.
