Sustainability is part of the core DNA of 3M. And environmental conservation is an indispensable aspect of a sustainable community. With that in mind, 14 members of the 3MHK Love & Care Volunteer Team and their families participated in “Tree Care Day” organized by the green partner The Green Earth, contributing to the “Country Parks Plantation Enrichment Programme”.
The volunteers set off from the Tsuen Wan MTR Station and arrived at Shek Lung Kung on Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail at Tai Lam Country Park. They then hiked for about 30 minutes and reached the plantation site. Standing in front of the site, one can enjoy the fresh air and a picture-card vista of the Tsuen Wan district and three main bridges in Hong Kong, including Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge and Stonecutters’ Bridge. The team was grateful to work at such a beautiful site. Under the guidance of The Green Earth, they learnt the proper ways of caring for the trees, such as weeding, adding fertilizers, and pruning to help speed up the growth rate of the native tree seedlings.
About Country Parks Plantation Enrichment Programme
The woodlands in Hong Kong were largely destroyed in World War II. Exotic tree species were strategically planted as pioneer trees to help land rehabilitation and soil erosion control. Over time, these exotic trees are ageing. To enhance the ecological values of these plantations, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department launched a programme named “Country Parks Plantation Enrichment Programme (PEP)” in 2009. With the help of many local green groups, the planting of native tree seedlings and post-planting maintenance are regularly carried out to increase biodiversity in country parks.
Standing in front of the plantation site at Shek Lung Kung, one can enjoy a picture-postcard vista of a cross-sea bridge under a deep blue sky.
A specialist from our partner, The Green Earth, teaches the volunteers how to take care of the trees properly.
3M volunteers carefully weed and add fertilizers to the soil to speed up the growth of the tree seedlings.
Through various voluntary works, members of the 3MHK Love & Care Volunteer Team contribute their time and talent to drive the sustainable development of society.
